S. Korea to step up COVID-19 testing for visitors from July 25

An agency at the Ministry of Health and Welfare said the country will tighten COVID-19 testing rules for arrivals again from July 25 as the number of infected cases rises in the country.

The Central Disease Control Headquarters (Bangdaebon) said that not only would a “negative” test certificate be required before boarding an incoming flight, visitors must now be tested for COVID-19 within 24 hours of arriving in South Korea.

Since June, testing requirements have been eased within 72 hours of landing.

The CDC noted that new, stricter policies may be further adjusted depending on the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since June 1, leisure travelers from overseas have been allowed to apply for visas to visit the Korean Peninsula again after suspending inbound tourism at the height of the pandemic.

There are 17 casinos in Korea. Sixteen of them are foreigner-only locations that attracted many customers from neighboring countries, including Japan and China, before the pandemic.
