Casino sales at Grand Korea Leisure Inc. (GKL), which operates foreigner-only casinos in Korea, fell 43.9 percent on-month to 19.59 billion won in January, according to data submitted to the Korea Exchange on Friday. The latest monthly tally fell 38.9 percent year-on-year.
In January, table game sales fell 48.4% sequentially, just under 16.51 billion won, and decreased 43.2% from a year ago.
Machine game sales were just under 3.09 billion won, up 3.6 percent from December and up 2.3 percent year-on-year.
The cumulative amount of “drops” – money customers pay to purchase gaming chips – was 303.33 billion won as of January, down 17.3% sequentially but up 11.3% from January 2023.
The company had no comment on the reason for the change.
Grand Korea Leisure operates three foreigner-only, seven-luck brand casinos. Two are in the capital city of Seoul, including Gangnam (photo), and one is in the southeastern port city of Busan.
The company is a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization and is affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Korea.
