OLG’s revenue is shared with the community through local government contribution agreements. Recently, the city of Niagara Falls received a cost of $6,386,158 CA$ in the first quarter of fiscal 2023-2024 from OLG. Since hosting the Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara in 1996, casino revenue has been a huge economic factor of CA$201,290,153, supporting numerous community projects.
Not long ago, Ontario Treasury Secretary Peter Betlenfalby said that by attracting casinos, communities can support critical community programs and services and strengthen infrastructure thanks to gambling revenues. In his words, such financial allocations and contributions support essential programs and services to ensure a better Ontario state in the future.
In addition to Niagara Falls, Peterborough also covered quarterly game allocations. We have received CA$789,929 to host the Shorelines Casino Peterborough from April 1, 2023 to June 30, 2023 for the first quarter of the current fiscal year. Since the casino began in October 2018, it has delivered a total of CA$10,194,294 to the city vault.
Over the past eight years, casino service providers have reportedly invested more than $2 billion in private capital across the province, with seven new casinos and one planned development since 2017, with additional gambling expansion and non-game facilities contributing to the local economy.
OLG presented the city of Sault St. Marie a check worth CA$1.45 million for hosting another gaming facility, Gateway Casino Sault St. Marie, in June. This is a municipal allocation of game revenue from slot and live table games throughout FY22-23. Since the casino’s opening, the city has paid nearly CA$34 million as an organizer.
Greater Sudbury also received a check on the game’s revenue share from 2022 to 2023. The city received CA$1.93 million for hosting Gateway Casino Sudbury for the full fiscal year. At the Tom Davies Square special, Mayor of Greater Sudbury, Paul Lefebre thanked OLG for its continued support of the local community.
