Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality Limited, a joint venture between China’s Diaoyutai state-owned guesthouse and U.S.-based casino group MGM Resorts International, has confirmed to GGRA plans for a new hotel with MGM brands in mainland China’s Guangdong province, just off Macau.
One will be in Zhuhai, the mainland city closest to Macau, and three in Shenzhen, across the Hong Kong border.
MGM Resorts is the parent company of Macau casino operator MGM China Holdings Ltd.
The Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality joint venture includes the operator of the Diaoyutai State Guest House, a Beijing venue used by Chinese leaders to invite foreign leaders.
Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality confirmed its plans to launch two new hotels, “MGM Shenzhen” and “Mhub by MGM Shenzhen Nanao” in 2023, in an emailed statement in response to inquiries from GGRAsia. It also said it plans to open “Diaoyutai Boutique Hotel Shenzhen” in 2024 and “MGM Zhuhai Miracle,” a hotel property that will be located in Zhuhai’s Jida district in 2026.
The company told GGRAsia that the release date may change.
“Mirage by MGM Zhuhai” is for the Chinese market and will be the first Mirage by MGM-branded hotel using the famous Las Vegas hotel name. According to MGM Hospitality in Diaoyutai, the hotel is for the Chinese market.
The joint venture will allow MGM brands to expand their reach within China, MGM China told GGRASia when the Bellagio Shanghai hotel opened in Shanghai in June 2018.
