Genting Highland Casino Resort Closed Through April 14

The resort’s World Genting tourist complex, which includes Malaysia’s only licensed casino venue (pictured), said in a notice posted on its customer website that the suspension would be extended until April 14.

The notice said this was because Malaysia’s prime minister extended the further spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic to a date he called a movement control order as part of efforts to control the spread there.

Resort World Genting, a resort with a theme park and located in the Genting Highlands near the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, said the closure also applies to several non-game resorts operated in Malaysia (Resort World Awana, Resorts World Kijal and Resorts World Langkawi).

“Resort operations will resume once the movement control order is lifted,” Resort World Genting said.

“We will evaluate the situation daily and make the necessary announcements as more information becomes available,” the update added.

Genting Malaysia Bhd, operator of Resorts World Genting, confirmed the initial closure of casino resorts and other Malaysian non-game resorts from March 18 to March 31 in a March 17 filing with Bursa Malaysia.

The group’s 2018 annual report, released in April last year, confirmed that Malaysian casino licenses were available for renewal every three months.
