Hoyana Gets Casino License in Vietnam

Hong Kong-listed Suncity Group Holdings Inc, managed by the president of Macau junket group Suncity Group, said in a news release on Friday that a company, an investor, had received decades of casino business licenses for Hoana Casino Resort in Vietnam.

The company referred to the permit issued by the Treasury Department as a “casino operating license” and includes the possibility of an extension effective until December 10, 2080.

Suncity Brands is one of the investors in the Hoana Casino scheme, and the group’s publicly traded company is managing the Hoana casino business, according to previous data. Hoana has been described in a press release related to the project as a $4 billion multi-level development.

Sun City Group Holdings Chairman Alvin Chow-Chukwah quoted Hoana as saying in the announcement that he was “alarmed” by her being licensed to operate the casino. He added that it meant a “true transformation of Sun City” from the Macau junket brand to the casino resort operator.

“Joana’s full opening will take place in 2021 and its exclusive premiere will take place in summer 2020,” the company reiterated in a March announcement.

According to previous comments from management, Hoiana will not be part of Vietnam’s pilot scheme for economically eligible locals to gamble.

Hoian South Development, a joint venture of a publicly traded company with an indirect stake of about 34%, has been “certified for its casino business qualifications,” the release said.

The developing entity may organize casino business activities according to the deadline specified in the investment registration certificate.

The document also provided information about the resort’s hotel brands. Phase 1 includes four hotels offering more than 1,000 rooms, suites and villas, including an all-suite Hoana hotel with 24-hour butler service, and a KHOS Hoana, described by a “new hospitality concept” that includes residences and “social hubs.”

There is also a Rosewood Hoian property that will be opened later, and there is a villa.

Quang Nam’s beachfront accommodation on Vietnam’s central coast will also have a beach club. An 18-hole golf course opened on March 2.

The property is also said to offer “various food and beverage and retail brands” and “performance and entertainment activities for both gaming and non-gaming guests.”
