China, through a coordination center based in Chiang Mai, Thailand, said it was working with neighboring Thailand, Myanmar and Laos to fight cross-border online gambling, communication-based fraud, and links to “human trafficking and personal detention.”
In a statement on Friday, China’s public security ministry referred to the situation after a meeting with police representatives from those countries in Chiang Mai on Aug. 15 and Aug. 16.
The plan shows that all parties have an “active” stance on these issues, China’s foreign ministry said.
In November, Thailand and China agreed to step up cooperation regarding efforts to combat transnational crimes, including online gambling.
In the same month, China and Cambodia issued a joint statement calling for increased cooperation in cracking down on online gambling and telecommunications fraud.
